January & February Favorites

Hey y'all,

I love watching youtube videos and reading posts of peoples favorites but I haven't really shared mine on a monthly basis. I might talk about something I am loving on a Five on Friday post but never made a dedicated effort but that is one of my blog goals for the year.I am hoping to do monthly or bi-monthly posts of some things I have been loving over the month.

January and February were hectic. Between a few snow storms that causes some work from home days, the big recruitment weekend for our students, a few on site visits, our executive assistant being out for jury duty for over two weeks, birthday celebrations, and hosting book club it has been a whirlwind two months.

I'm excited for a calmer March which includes a fun trip to California for a wedding and seeing my Mom's side of the family. Any travel recommendations are welcome! I actually just went and bought real luggage as I have always borrowed a carry-on or used my Vera Bradley duffle.

The Olympics

I don't know about you but the Winter Olympics is my favorite of the two. It just seems that I could watch any of the sports during the Winter (expect Hockey) but in the summer I am more selective. For the last few weeks I have been staying up way past my bedtime to watch amazing athletes compete in their respective disciplines. While I am sad the Olympics are over, I am happy that I can resume my normal 10:30pm bedtime.

The Greatest Showman Soundtrack

I was able to finally watch the Greatest Showman in February (I was waiting on my mom as she is also a big musical fan) and I loved the film. I actually started listening to the soundtrack before going to see the film which worked out well. Seriously, the soundtrack is on repeat at work most days.

Putting Me Together Winter Challenge

I decided to sign up for the Putting Me Together Winter Challenge. I love Audrey's blog and since I wanted to see if I could move towards a more capsule wardrobe it was a fun challenge. Audrey always posts the items in the challenge on the blog but the purchase content shows each of the 30+ days in a day by day format with the items including suggestions and some swaps if that fits. While I didn't follow the challenge everyday excatly, I did move the challenge pieces to one part of my closet and worked out most of my outfits for the month from that section. There were a few exceptions like lazy Sundays and then when I would serve in the kids ministry at church. My favorite pieces from the challenge were this striped shirt, my J.Crew vests (I have the Factory version as well), and my Lilly Pulitzer Travel Pants. Let me know if you would like me to share some of the outfits I wore in January/February.
top/pants/shoes, old from Ralph Lauren (similar)
top/vest (on sale for under $60)/necklace(B.P., similar)/jeans(old)/boots (old, similar)

I felt that at the end of 2017 I had put reading on the back burner and it is one of my favorite ways to relax. This year I have put reading back as a priority and I have finished 10 books already and I am working on two more (one is an audio book). I will do a What I'm Reading Wednesday post soon to review a few of them.

King's Cage (Red Queen #3)

Birthday celebrations.

I turned 28 at the end of January and was able to celebrate with a favorite foods feast. I had a group of friends over and we all ate some of my favorite foods-cheese and crackers, ceasar salad, and my mom's beef stroganoff. We ended the dinner with some funfetti cupcakes and it was a nice night that left plenty of leftovers for me to eat for the week. Win!

My sweet friends got me flowers, a candle, an accessories bag, wine, and a cute narwhal mug!

My work even surprised me with a small celebration of cake and cookies on my birthday as a way to say thanks for my work during our big weekend recruitment event the week before.

My parents were sweet and sent a few goodies in the mail for me and then I received a few more gifts when I visited them in February. I received this mug, these earrings, these sponges, and a few other goodies.

Max snuggles

My poor cat had oral surgery last week. Talking with one of my friends, LC, we joked that we can never have kids since taking care of our animals already causes enough anxiety. Little man is doing well but it was stressful having him go into a dental cleaning knowing that he would most likely be losing two of his teeth. It made me appreciate all the snuggles when very anxious over his surgery.
This was Max when I was sick at home with the stomach bug.
This is Max post surgery. His eyes were so big after being drugged up and his poor little arm is shaved from the IV location.

My Health.

This month included the evil stomach bug. Yuck! Along with routine appointments (physical, dentist, dietitian), it was a good month to remember to be grateful for my health. Between Barre3 classes and trying to focus on my nutrition again I have been feeling great.

Protein Donuts. You can use any protein powder you have on hand.
Taco Meat. I was skeptical but this is the best taco meat. I used it for a nacho bar and for tacos.
Whole Wheat Pizza Crust. Perfect for a pizza party where everyone builds their own.
Pasta e Fagioli. Found in the Skinnytaste Fast and Slow Cookbook.

What have you been loving the last two months?
Can you believe it's March!
We are 1/6 done with 2018.

  1. Aw, your poor kitty!! That's great you are taking more time to read and way to go on reading 10 books so far this year. Reading is one of my favorite things, so I'm always trying to make time for it.

  2. oh your poor cat! love the new mug. i didn't know audrey did challenges like that, i will have to look into one next time. i keep hearing about the Greatest Showman soundtrack but haven't seen the movie yet and want to do that first.

  3. I've been reading The Glass Castle and it's dragging! I am determined to finish it this weekend.

  4. Hope Max is fully recovered! I'd love to see some of the outfits you wore in January/February!

  5. Hooray for the Olympics! I loved having the events on in the evening when I was home :) And happy belated birthday! That narwhal mug is super cute. And it's always stressful when our furbabies are sick - I hope Max is feeling better!

Thank you for your sweet thoughts!
